High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the most common diseases particularly for adults. Their blood pressure condition make them can’t eat anything they want. Here are the “do and don’t” foods for people with high blood pressure.

Foods that Good for Hypertension

One of dietary recommendations for lowering blood pressure is DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet. You need to reduce the intake of sodium, fat, and alcohol. The suggested foods should rich in calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Foods with low-fat protein sources, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are generally recommended. For example: leafy greens, berries, banana, potatoes, beets, skim milk, and oatmeal.

Avoid Consuming These Foods
  •  You should avoid foods with high salt amount such as deli meat, frozen pizza, pickles, and canned products.
  • Sugar and foods with high sugar contents including sugar-sweetened drinks.
  • Saturated fat such as chicken skin, red meat, butter, and full-fat dairy products.
  • Soda, caffeinated tea, and coffee.
  • Last is alcohol, only 3 glasses of alcohol can spike their blood pressure right away.
Hypertension is the silent killer that usually followed by another severe disease include heart disease and diabetes. So, you need to control your diet and get a healthy lifestyle including regular exercises.
